This past week in kindergarten has been so fun! We have had two huge events take place, QU got married.... and then our caterpillar, Tinkerbell, emerged from the chrysalis!!!! ***WARNING*** THIS POST CONTAINS LOTS OF PICTURES!! :) Before I share some of those adorable pictures with you I would like to direct your attention below for some things to know! :)
Some things to know/remember:
- We have started to take home library books. We go to library each Tuesday, so please have your library book brought back to school by each Monday at the latest. :)
- I would like to remind you to please initial the behavior calendar that is in your child's take-home folder each night.
- Friday, Sept. 27th is an early dismissal at 11:25. No Trojan Triumph.
- Please collect BOXTOPS for our classroom! We can win a party if we bring in the most! :) Ask grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles, etc. to help out too! :) THANKS for all of the boxtops!!! Keep 'em coming!
- Be on the lookout for our new class book, "The Exquisite Wedding of Q and U Guest Book." Please remember to send the class books back to school the day after you get them, if possible. :)
WHAT WE'VE BEEN LEARNING:
Language Arts
We have really been working hard at identifying the number of sounds in words and isolating the beginning and final sound. This week we introduced what a syllable is. Letter Pp, Bb, and Rr have been introduced. Rhyming is being worked on daily; it is such an important skill. Most children have become proficient at writing their first name . If you notice that your child is still struggling I ask that you continue to work on this at home.
Keep practicing the first quarter sight words!

Math
Chapter 3 in math continues with positions of objects. This is a quick chapter and the kids are doing great!!! I was SO SO SO SO happy with the results of the chapter 2 math test on patterning! Yay! I have posted in our room the Common Core math vocabulary words that we have discussed so far. These vocabulary terms and concepts are going to be reinforced daily. It is amazing the amount of things that the children learn!!
AND NOW..... may I present the WEDDING OF Q AND U!!!!!!!!!!! (Can I just say how PRECIOUS the children looked in their quarterback and queen outfits?!)

|
AND THEN...... our little baby Tinkerbell was born!!!!!! <3 <3
|
This is not a good picture.... but you can see her green chrysalis hanging..... |
Then.... 2 days later she looked like this!!!!!! |
She was in her chrysalis yesterday morning, then when we came back from writing class at 11:15 she had hatched!!!!! That is when we found out that Tinkerbell was not a SHE.... but a HE butterfly. (Boy butterflies have two black spots on the back of their wings.) :) |
It took 11 days for Tinkerbell to turn from chrysalis to butterfly! |
Mrs. Piekos was there to share in our fun!!! Thank you Mrs. Piekos!!!! |
|
Not sure what I was doing here.... but I can honestly say I have never had a butterfly sit on my fingertip before! :) |
When butterflies are born their wings are wet and they cannot fly. So, we waited until Tinkerbell's wings were dry and then we took her outside to see if she would fly away!
We LOOOOOVED Tinkerbell so much!!
AND THEN.... He flew away........ and we chased after him until we couldn't see him anymore..... <3
|
Can you see him?? |
|
Thank you again Mrs. Piekos!!!! |
Until next time,
