Engineering Design!

Some things to know/remember:

FIELD DAY morning of Tuesday, 6/3.  The rain date is 6/5.
  • If you purchased a field day t-shirt please have your child wear it
  • TENNIS SHOES only
  • Please put sunscreen on your child that morning before school
  • Please send a water bottle with your child (a disposable one with their name on it is preferred)
Friday, 6/6 is our LAST day of school.  Regular, full day. :)

Literacy
We have been working our comprehension strand of "Questioning."  The kids are really getting good at asking good questions as we read.  I have postponed reading groups as I have begun end of the year assessements.  I ask that you please keep having your child read to you, especially over the summer. I cannot stress the importance of this enough.  Sight word practice would also be beneficial.

Math
Addition and subtraction fluency within 5 is what we are currently working on in math.  The speed and ease that they solve these math facts will help them as they enter first grade.  Solving simple word problems is also being focused on.

ENGINEERING DESIGN
We had so, so, so much fun with this unit.  Thanks for all of the supplies you donated!!  Our challenges were:
  1. After reading "The Gingerbread Man" we had to create a way for the Gingerbread man to cross the river safely so he didn't have to take the fox's offer.
  2. After Reading "Tikki Tikki Tembo" we had to create a way for Tikki Tikki Tembo No Sa Rembo Chari Bari Ruchi Pip Peri Pembo to get out of the well without the help of others.
  3. After reading the nursery rhyme "Hey Diddle Diddle" they had to design a way to get the cow safely over the moon.
  4. After Reading "Three Billy Goats Gruff" the students had to design a house for the troll to live in so he didn't have to live under the bridge anymore. :)
