A Great Beginning!

This has been an amazing start to this year so far!  I have finished preliminary assessments and have gained a good grasp on where your child stands academically.  I have some smart cookies this year!  :)  In mathematics we are working on Common Core Standards K.CC.1, K.CC.3, and K.CC.4. We are working on our oral counting, and counting and writing up to number 10.  This upcoming week in language arts/reading we will learn about the letters Jj, Ss, Qq, and Uu.  On Friday Q and U will get married!! :)  It is always a fun day in Kindergarten! :)  Our comprehension strand we are working on is predicting.  The kids are making some GREAT predictions!  We are also working on identifying our expositions of title, author, illustrator, action, character, and setting.

I am beyond honored to be your child's teacher this year!  I hope you are hearing some great things from your child about Kindergarten so far!  Here is a snapshot of some of the things we have been up to:

On "E" day-- doing dramatic play with Elephants! :)

On "I" day, we ate ICE CREAM! Yummy!

Our 5th Grade friends helped us stamp our hands when we made our "I'm Special" book.  They come in for a bit in the mornings and they are super helpful!

On "T" day we played with "Tinker Toys!"

On "F" day we read and learned about frogs.

Seriously, how cute is this?! :)

Legos are a huge hit!!

In math we played a game called, "Please go get me...." where the students had to go and get a certain number of objects for their team.  The kids had a great time with this.... and it was great math counting practice. :)

Until next time,
