Kind of a crazy week this week! For the first time that I can remember, we were in school on Veteran's Day. It ended up being a fantastic day, full of activities to help us learn the importance of honoring those who fight, or who who fought, for our freedom. We made a bubble map about traits that veteran's would have, read stories about them, and most importantly, we had two special visitors. The first, I am honored to say, was my father-in-law, Mike Bagby. Mr. Bagby is a marine, who bravely served our country in the Vietnam war. He brought many items to share with us, and told us many stories, also! We thanked him for protecting our freedom!
He showed us his uniform, and the uniform of his father who served in the Navy in World War II. |
He had a lot of medals! |
He showed us pictures of the helicopters he used to fly. |
He showed us his dog tags, and showed us how he used to open up cans to eat when he had to live in the jungle. |
He showed us the blanket he used when he slept in the jungle, it rolled up very, very small. |
THANK YOU MR. BAGBY!!!!!!!! :) |
Then, we had another visitor. This visitor had to be over the computer because he is currently serving in the Navy, and stationed in Guam!!!! It is Mrs. Parker's son, Kevin Parker.
We got to ask him a lot of questions! We found out he helps make sure ships are safe. It is hot in Guam. He got a medal, too! |
When we talked to him at 2:30 p.m. our time, it was 6:30 in the morning in Guam! He was tired. He is going to be in Guam for 2 1/2 more years! |

THANK YOU MR. PARKER!!!!!!!! |
We have been working hard on the comprehension strand of summarizing! We read "Mouse Paint" and summarized the beginning, middle, and end. It is a story about three white mice who end up mixing the primary colors of red, yellow, and blue, to make the secondary colors of purple, green, and orange. We have also been learning about the three states of matter. So, to combine our summarizing with our science, we did an investigation on how heat and cold can change the states of matter of objects. We used crayons. We saw how heat changed the crayons from a solid to a liquid. We also saw how shaved crayons melted the fastest, and the whole crayons melted the slowest. Then, when they were melted, we mixed the three primary colors to make the secondary colors. Lastly, we cooled the liquid wax and we saw how it became a solid again. It was so fun!
Until next time,
